The river through the Island

In June 2026, walking with my students through the jungle on the Island, I found a long river I had never seen. I wanted to show them that water, and emotion, can be crossed far faster than the ego believes.

I am with the students again and we are walking through the jungle on the east side, and I am surprised to find a new part of the Island! It is a large, deep river that runs a long way through the forest toward the north side. There were wooden paddle boats there, and people started taking them to travel across the river. But I wanted to show the students that they could cross water faster than they understand — that navigating emotions can be quick, not the long process the ego thinks it should be. I conjure up a white vehicle, a futuristic-looking boat that looked more like an enclosed car without wheels. I took a handful of the students onboard. Before I drove, I wondered whether the water was fresh or sea water, since I would be surprised if it was fresh. I dipped my finger in and tasted it, and it was very salty. (After waking, I searched on Google whether tropical islands can have salt water rivers, and it said yes.) I begin to drive at high speed, passing the other students. It was such a ravine, with tropical vegetation on both sides. I understood while driving that it would take around thirty minutes to cross on the wooden paddle boats at a steady pace. We reached the other side in what felt like just over five minutes. We got off and waited for the others to catch up.

(The Island is the inner landscape that the students of The Astral Doorway Course walk together, night by night.)
