The Course
There is a light inside you, and it is asleep
Awakening the Inner Light does not ask you to absorb more ideas. It begins where you already are: in the sleep we call ordinary life, and in the quiet fact that something in you is not asleep, and has noticed.
Week by week it goes inward, gently. First presence, and the face we borrow to meet the world. Then the mirror of honest self-observation, which sees without judging and without trying to fix. Then the hidden floors of the inner life, the many selves that live there, and the creative fire that can be raised rather than spent. And last, the temple that is left when the clutter is cleared, and a way of living that becomes the practice itself.
Each class gives one practice to carry into the week. Taken together, they are a path of self-knowledge and stillness for anyone, of any path or of none.
From the Classes
In Gene’s own words

So this course is not about beliefs. It's not about the ideas we have, but it's about the light that you can attend to from moment to moment.
What is welcomed no longer needs to stay. What is fought becomes a guest forever.
The Journey
Eight doorways, one inner light
The eight classes, as they were taught: each one a single doorway, given plainly and then entered in meditation.
The Sleep
- 1
The Sleep We Call Life
What we call being awake is mostly a sleep, in which thoughts, feelings and reactions move through us unseen. The ground of the whole course: a simple presence that can stay with you even in the darkest moments.
Being here
- 2
The Borrowed Face
The personality is a face assembled in childhood, to be loved, to feel safe, to belong. The masks we perform, the subtlest of them the spiritual one, and the hidden heart beneath that needs no costume.
A meditation in the center of the chest
- 3
The Living Mirror
Self-observation is not a technique or a state to reach, but a quiet noticing already in you. What clouds the mirror, the question of who is observing, and concentration as the ground beneath presence.
Watch, then watch what watched
The Inner Country
- 4
The Hidden Floors
The same person on a different inner floor becomes a different person. Five floors, from the pit to the sky, the honest question of where you stand, and the climber who believes they live upstairs.
The floor check
- 5
The Many and the One
What you call I is a crowd, each self convinced it is the whole of you. The three labors of transformation, dying, creating and serving, and why a self dissolves only when it is honestly seen.
Welcoming the many
- 6
The Sacred Fire
The creative fire is not a drive to manage but a power to revere. Three ways it is lost, by spending, suppressing and shame, and the fourth: raising it gently, with relaxation, breath and love.
Raising the fire
The Temple
- 7
The Living Temple
The body as a temple to prepare, not a machine to fix. Devotion, which opens the door effort only knocks on, and prayer joined with meditation: a warm turning toward the light within, and then listening.
Filling the temple
- 8
The Way That Becomes a Life
Almost no one leaves the path on purpose; the light fades through a quiet forgetting. How the work survives ordinary life: a little every day, faithfulness rather than intensity, and the light carried into sleep.

Voices from the Course
What they found
“A return to simplicity. This course came to me during a difficult period, when something I had been attached to for years was revealed as false, and my sense of reality lost its foundation. Awakening the Inner Light does not ask you to absorb more concepts or theories. It was designed to touch you in the depths, to help you discover genuine parts of yourself that were previously just an idea. Step by step, week by week, you go deeper into yourself, gently and without judgment. If you ever felt your mind has taken over your spiritual life, this course is for you. By the end, you walk the path with more ease, quiet patience, and understanding.”
“Awakening the Inner Light has been a meaningful journey for me. It has helped me become more aware of myself, my thoughts, and the deeper aspects of my path. What I appreciate most is that the journey is not about blindly believing, but about experiencing and discovering things for myself. It has encouraged me to look within, face my challenges honestly, and continue growing with humility and purpose. I would recommend it to anyone who sincerely seeks self-knowledge and inner transformation.”

Questions
Before you begin
Do I need any experience?
None. The course asks for no belief and no background, only a willingness to look. It was written for anyone, of any path or of none.
How is it different from The Astral Doorway Course?
The Astral Doorway Course is a journey into the night: lucid dreaming and the astral world. Awakening the Inner Light stays in the day. It is about presence, self-knowledge and stillness, the ground every other practice stands on.
Are the students’ questions included?
No. The classes were taught live, and the students’ questions and answers are left out, out of respect for their privacy. What remains is the teaching itself and every guided practice.
How long is it?
Eight classes, about nine hours in all: an hour or so of teaching and meditation each. Take one a week, as the circle did, or walk it at your own pace.
When was it taught?
Live on Zoom, over eight weeks beginning May 3, 2026.
Where do I watch?
In the Astral Doorway app, on your phone or computer. The app is free, and it installs straight from your browser: there is nothing to find in an app store.
What is the refund policy?
Enrollment is non-refundable. The moment you join, the whole course is in your hands. So before you enroll, feel into it honestly, and if any question would help you decide, write to me first at gene@genehart.com.
No one who genuinely longs to walk this path will be turned away for the want of money. If you are sincere but truly cannot meet the cost, write to me at gene@genehart.com in a few honest sentences. I read these letters myself.
The light that does not go out
You do not need to become anyone else. Everything this course asks of you is already within reach: a moment of presence, an honest look, and the patience to return. Do it again, and again, and something quiet begins to shine through.
