Meeting a guide, and remembering that I projected as a child
Out of the body, I found myself with someone I recognized as a guide, and I asked him a question about my waking life. The answer came without words, and then as a memory I didn’t know I had.
I found myself in front of a humble gentleman who looked to be in his fifties or sixties. He was dressed quite smartly, with a gentle, warm and very calm manner, and I recognized him as a guide and teacher who was there to assist me. Whether he was my own guide or someone I happened to come across, I don’t know. I didn’t pester him with questions. I simply enjoyed being in his presence for a while, in a feeling of affinity, like a spiritual brother or even a father figure.
I had recently moved to South Korea, but as often happens out of the body, we were somewhere I knew well: Leicester Square, in the center of London, with English billboards, red double-decker buses and black cabs all around us. We both felt it was too concrete and still too busy. On a map near a tube station I pointed to a green area on the outskirts of London. For a moment I thought we would have to take the underground. Of course not: we flew up into the sky, and I followed him.
A bridge to an island
We landed somewhere much more peaceful and walked through beautiful English countryside. I spotted a puppy and was about to go and comfort her, thinking she was lost, but my guide stopped me and pointed to her parent and the other puppies, and we watched them play. As we did, something shifted. Things began to feel more magical, almost heavenly, as if an aura of enchanted peace filled the dimension, and I was no longer sure I was in an Earth-like plane.
The path led on to a coast, where a long, majestic bridge ran from the land to a beautiful island. Its raised sides were woven with intricate patterns you could look out through. Standing in the middle of it, I saw a majestic castle on the island, under a dark, dusky purple sky full of stars, shooting stars and great masses of cloud. What looked like angels or masters were coming in and out of the castle, with light shining inside whenever the doors opened. I told my guide we had to go there, and he agreed.
A question without words
But I remembered that I had been feeling quite stressed in my physical life, so I finally asked him a question: “How can I be more present and aware during stressful situations in my life, such as starting a new job?” He didn’t answer at once. He took the question in, and closed his eyes. He never said anything. Through the bond between us I gradually understood the energy he was holding and giving me, and I found the answer myself. It wasn’t a verbal answer, but it was along these lines: when we no longer resist pain, and voluntarily and deeply accept our challenges, we transmute them into joy and grace.
We never reached the castle. Instead, the experience turned inward, into something I had never felt in an out-of-body experience before.
A memory I didn’t know I had
I began remembering something very deep in my own mind, from when I was perhaps three years old, maybe even younger. In the memory I was astral projecting, not after effort or intention, but completely naturally. I came out of my body in my childhood bedroom with ease, pushed things off the tabletops and made a mess in the astral, happily and playfully, the way children are. Then I would hop back into my body and wake up, see that the objects were still in place, get up and make a mess in the physical, then go back to sleep and project again, playing with toys, papers and books. I came in and out of my body at least three or four times, almost instantly.
It was a peculiar sensation. On one level I was the child again, back in that bedroom. On another level I was my future self, watching in total surprise, with no words, simply experiencing the memory.
Correcting what I had written
In my very first video, and in my book, I said that I started astral projecting at eighteen, and that I was not one of those who had done it since childhood.
I am not one of those much heard about astral projectors who started doing it naturally since they were children
I was wrong. As a child it was never a conscious practice or an intentional activity. It happened at an age before I had developed a sense of self, an ego, so I still didn’t start consciously and properly until I was eighteen. But I clearly remember astral projecting as a child, much more easily than I can now.
Playfulness
The memory was an elaboration of my guide’s answer. As a child I projected with complete ease, much more easily than I can as a stressed adult, and it taught me that I need to bring more joy, playfulness and lightness back into my life, rather than feeling like a weary, run-down adult. As a child I had no worries or anxieties, and I didn’t think about time in the usual linear way. I just lived. That week I went back to work with what I had learned from my guide, and from myself as a child: to be light-hearted and at ease, more playful and joyful, and not to take things too seriously. It really helped me come to terms with the stress I had been having.
If I were to teach a class of children and a class of adults about how to come out of body, the children would most likely have double the adults’ success rate.
Most children are free from conflict, whether of the material, the spiritual, belief systems or relationships. They have no identification with being spiritual, or good or bad at this or that. That more innocent state of consciousness is the one we have to go back into.
